Find the Alma Court Docket

Start your Alma court docket search with the court named on the citation or notice you received, because the city and the county keep separate files in Buffalo County. Alma holds the county seat, yet its city office and the circuit court clerk answer to different dockets. City staff can hand you municipal forms and ordinance material. Anything filed with the county runs through Wisconsin's public circuit court system. For a county case, the Buffalo County Clerk of Circuit Court confirms hearing dates, keeps the proceedings, takes court payments, and hands out the public documents behind the Alma docket.

Alma County-Seat Docket Hub

Alma counted 716 residents in the 2020 Census. That ranks fourth among Buffalo County's four incorporated cities. Size does not decide where a docket lives, though. The county-seat role does, and Alma holds it, which puts the main court-record counter in town.

One office handles most Buffalo County court records. The Clerk of Circuit Court maintains criminal, civil, family, small-claims, traffic, ordinance, juvenile, and related proceedings. Probate and similar matters may run through the Register in Probate instead. Neither role belongs to the Alma city clerk or the Buffalo County Clerk. Those two serve general city and county government.

Alma Municipal Court Basics

Wisconsin lets municipal courts hear traffic, parking, ordinance, first-offense OWI, and some juvenile ordinance matters. The city posts no separate Alma municipal judge, court building, caseload count, night court, kiosk, or docket portal, but that says nothing about what a local process might be. Follow the court printed on your Alma citation. For a matter routed to Buffalo County Circuit Court, WCCA and the Clerk of Circuit Court are the practical sources. Alma City Hall handles city forms and ordinance material. It never becomes the custodian of a county court event just because the cited conduct happened in Alma.

Two Alma Docket Addresses

Two offices sit in Alma, and they stay separate. Alma City Hall sits at 314 N. Main St., P.O. Box 277, Alma, WI 54610, with phone 608-685-3330 and fax 608-685-4935. Its city clerk counter is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed Tuesday and Thursday. The Buffalo County courthouse record counter is at 407 S. 2nd St., Alma, WI 54610. Reach the Clerk of Circuit Court at 608-685-6212, and use P.O. Box 68 for confirmed mail routes. Sharing a city does not merge these offices.

Court Dates and Settings in Alma

WCCA can show future court activity on a county circuit case. Read the most recent event, not the first one. A reset or continuance appears as a new event or an updated future setting. The old date often stays in the history. If a mailed notice clashes with the online entry, call the Clerk of Circuit Court before trusting either.

Date and timeThe scheduled appearance, checked against later reset entries.
Case numberThe county, year, case-type code, and sequence tied to the file.
ActivityAppearance, conference, motion, plea, review, hearing, or trial.
Court officialJudge Thomas W. Clark or another assigned official when entered.
LocationThe room or site shown in the activity; call if it is blank.

An Alma citation starts with its printed date. Filing a written not-guilty plea does not lock in a trial date. Buffalo County says the scheduling clerk assigns trial once that written plea arrives.

Alma Ordinance Form Is Not a Docket

The Alma permits and licenses page posts an Ordinance Violation Complaint Form. That form feeds city administrative or enforcement intake. It cannot search WCCA, list a judge's events, prove a court case was filed, or hand you a certified disposition. The city's page shows the official form route.

The form may open a local process. Once a matter becomes a Buffalo County court case, the circuit system keeps the docket and the court clerk supplies the filed papers.

Traffic Tickets in Alma

Buffalo County's current traffic procedure says an appearance is usually not required. Each citation controls, though. To contest, appear on the Alma citation date. You can also file a written not-guilty plea before it. Do neither and the Alma case may default. After a written plea, the scheduling clerk assigns the trial date. The county plea form asks for case number, issuing agency, name, address, phone, plea choice, signature, and date. A jury trial request must be written. Send it to the clerk with a $36 fee within ten days of the initial appearance, per that form's instructions.

For an eligible court payment search, use WCCA PayOnline with first name, last name, and Buffalo County. AllPaid takes the Alma case or citation number plus pay-location code 2024. It adds a service fee. Alma city online bill pay is a separate channel entirely.

Alma City Hall Docket Limits

The official Alma website lists city office details, forms, and municipal services. Its night drop and online bill-pay features serve Alma city business only. Treat neither as a court filing box or a court fine system unless the proper Alma clerk says so in writing. The city's own municipal contact view reflects the same split.

City Hall can hand you ordinance text and a complaint form. That is where its usefulness ends. For a docket entry, hearing date, judgment, or certified court document, go to WCCA or the Alma courthouse clerk instead.

Where Alma Cases Go

An Alma citation often starts with city enforcement. From there, the court named on the citation takes over. Felonies, misdemeanors, ordinary civil cases, family matters, small claims, and county traffic or ordinance cases all live in the Wisconsin Circuit Court structure. They never sit in an Alma city-government file.

WCCA shows the circuit event trail. For documents and certified copies, ask the Clerk of Circuit Court. A notice of appeal can appear there too. The full appeal itself proceeds in Wisconsin Supreme Court. Court of Appeals Case Access for District III handles that layer. The Buffalo County court docket overview covers that county layer in more depth.

Alma Docket Documents Behind Events

A WCCA line may say a complaint, plea, motion, order, judgment, or satisfaction was entered. That label is not the filed paper itself. Inspection, plain copies, certified copies, and the proper transcript route all sit with one office. The Buffalo County Clerk of Circuit Court is the local source.

Copies cost $1.25 per page. Certification adds $5 per case number. The state fee chart also lists a $5 search per action when no case number is given. A good request names the Alma case number, filing year, and type of case. Add the exact event or document, plus whether you need a plain or certified copy.

Confirm mail or fax acceptance and prepayment before sending anything. The clerk offers no dedicated online certified-copy form and posts no fixed Buffalo County turnaround.

Missing Alma Docket Search Results

Start over with Buffalo County selected and drop the optional filters. Try the exact case number, a last name, or a business name. The Alma citation number also works with its issuing agency. A recent filing may not show yet. An older paper file may predate CCAP or never have been back-loaded.

Still nothing? Call 608-685-6212 and give the Alma clerk the approximate year, case type, agency, and party style. Share any old number too. The courthouse WCCA terminal offers in-person public access. For Alma city ordinance text or the Alma complaint form, use City Hall instead.

Choose by record type. City Hall answers city-form questions; the Alma courthouse clerk searches the Alma-related circuit court file.

Sealed, juvenile, family, guardianship, commitment, and other protected matters may show little or no public detail. A missing result never proves the matter does not exist.

Alma Court Record Access Rules

Wis. Stat. §19.31 sets out Wisconsin's policy favoring access to government information, within legal limits. Route any request for an Alma-related circuit file to the Buffalo County Clerk of Circuit Court. The Alma city clerk and Buffalo County Clerk hold other government records.

Court access rules: Wis. Stat. §801.20 addresses protected court data, while §801.21 supplies the process for a motion to seal or redact.

Juvenile, family, medical, financial, guardianship, and commitment records can be confidential, sealed, redacted, or coded. The same goes for identifying information. A visible case number does not open the whole file. The Alma clerk may hand over a redacted public copy. Or the clerk may require a court order for protected material.

Staff can explain records and procedure. They cannot give legal advice. Ask what public portion exists and respect any restriction the court imposes.
